Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

For those who like to keep it simple and steer free of penalties and unexpected rate hikes – while working to pay down balances on other cards – the Citi Simplicity credit card, from our partner Citi, is simply the best. Citibank does advertise its products on CompareCards. You get an intro APR of 0%* for 21 months on Purchases* and 0%* for 21 months on Balance Transfers*, followed by a variable interest rate of 14.99% - 24.99% (Variable). The extra-long 0% intro rate applies to both balance transfers and purchases, which makes the Citi Simplicity card a great card to use for big purchases or to consolidate other credit card debt.

One of the most remarkable features of this card is that there are no late fees or penalty rates charged for late payments. You also get special coverage for lost luggage or trip cancellation and $0 liability on unauthorized charges. It is no wonder that the Citi Simplicity has won rave reviews and is included in many consumer lists of “Top 10” credit cards.

The Bottom Line

The Citi Simplicity Card keeps it simple, streamlining the terms of its cardholder agreement in a way that is probably simpler than any other credit card on the market. Plus there is an intro APR of 0% APR for 21 months, no annual fee, and no late penalties.

The Good

The best part about this card is the fantastic 0% APR for a full 21 months, on both balance transfers and purchases, so that’s a generous incentive.

The Not so Good

You’ll need excellent credit to qualify for the Citi Simplicity card, and there is no rewards program attached to it.

I have done this in the past with Citibank. It's a good deal if you pay off your new card in the 0% time frame. Otherwise, you will end up paying a very high interest rate on your unpaid balance.

My most favorite card ever! 0% for 21 months no annual fee and if you miss a payment there is never a late fee. Pay what you can when you can but of course try your nest to pay it off before your promo ends.

Citi Simplicity® Card appears to be a fantastic value when used correctly. Any idea on the credit score range that increases ones chance for approval?

Yes, great offer specially with 21 months interest free I received with my new card to bring all my accounts under one roof. Only a 3% fee on my balance transfer saving all the way to the bank. Thank you comparecards.com for being online.

Hi I have a question. I was reading some of the reviews. What do you mean by YOU CAN NOT TRANSFER A BALANCE BETWEEN CARDS FROM THE SAME ISSUER? I have been paying a lot of interest in a master card issued by American Air lines. My plan is to apply for one of the Citi Diamond Preferred Card and transfer as much as I can from my American Air lines Master Card. Would that work? Thank you

Issuers, such as Capital One, Wells Fargo, or in your case, Citi, often do not allow you to transfer balances between two cards that they issue. The Citi AAdvantage card and the Citi Diamond Preferred Card are both issued by Citi, so you are not allowed to transfer balances between the two. Instead, try a balance transfer card from another issuer such as the Discover it® - 18 Month Balance Transfer Offer or the Wells Fargo Platinum Visa® Card.

By: Michael Platz | Aug 17, 2017

You should be able to do this so long as both cards aren't issued by Citi.

I literally just applied for this card. I have a good credit rating between 700 & 750. I wanted to pay off two (2) high interest credit cards with total balances of $2100. I was approved for a card with a $5000 credit limit. I took advantage of the intro transfer deal. Citi Simplicity will pay off the balance of my other two cards. I will have one bill at zero interest. What is not to like. I am VERY happy!

I don't know what my rating is, but I'd love to transfer a Visa (US Bank) card, but I have to department store credit cards through Citibank already. Would this prevent me from transferring the Visa balance?

By: CompareCards | Jun 7, 2016

You won't be able to transfer a balance to the Citi Simplicity from a store card issued that is also issued by Citibank. However, you shouldn't have any problem transfer the balance from your US Bank Visa, assuming that your credit rating is high enough to get approved.

Is it 21 months meaning for the first 21 months only? Let's say I paid off my balance on the 21 month after I got my cc, then i make another purchase. Will there be interest then?

By: CompareCards | May 31, 2016

Hi Lisa,

The 21 months of 0% intro APR only applies to the first 21 months after you open your account. If you carry a balance on your card after 21 months of having the card, you will pay interest on your balance.
