Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

For those who like to keep it simple and steer free of penalties and unexpected rate hikes – while working to pay down balances on other cards – the Citi Simplicity credit card, from our partner Citi, is simply the best. Citibank does advertise its products on CompareCards. You get 0% for 21 months, followed by a variable interest rate of 13.24 - 23.24% (variable). The extra-long 0% intro rate applies to both balance transfers and purchases, which makes the Citi Simplicity card a great card to use for big purchases or to consolidate other credit card debt.

One of the most remarkable features of this card is that there are no late fees or penalty rates charged for late payments. You also get special coverage for lost luggage or trip cancellation and $0 liability on unauthorized charges. It is no wonder that the Citi Simplicity has won rave reviews and is included in many consumer lists of “Top 10” credit cards.

The Bottom Line

The Citi Simplicity Card keeps it simple, streamlining the terms of its cardholder agreement in a way that is probably simpler than any other credit card on the market. Plus there is a full 21 months of 0% APR, no annual fee, and no late penalties.

The Good

The best part about this card is the fantastic 0% APR for a full 21 months, on both balance transfers and purchases, so that’s a generous incentive.

The Not so Good

You’ll need excellent credit to qualify for the Citi Simplicity card, and there is no rewards program attached to it.

I don't know what my rating is, but I'd love to transfer a Visa (US Bank) card, but I have to department store credit cards through Citibank already. Would this prevent me from transferring the Visa balance?

You won't be able to transfer a balance to the Citi Simplicity from a store card issued that is also issued by Citibank. However, you shouldn't have any problem transfer the balance from your US Bank Visa, assuming that your credit rating is high enough to get approved.

Is it 21 months meaning for the first 21 months only? Let's say I paid off my balance on the 21 month after I got my cc, then i make another purchase. Will there be interest then?

Hi Lisa,

The 21 months of 0% intro APR only applies to the first 21 months after you open your account. If you carry a balance on your card after 21 months of having the card, you will pay interest on your balance.

Excellent card, Have had Simplicity cards for years, Never had a problem. You need to read and understand credit card offers before you apply for them. This card has saved me lots of interest on my cards for several years. I haven't paid interest on cards for several years. First educate yourself so you wont be complaining afterwards.

Are there any restrictions to the offer of 0% interest for 21 months?

By: CompareCards | Aug 12, 2015

Hi Kathy,

The 0% APR for 21 months is available to new cardholders and it applied to purchases and balance transfers. There is no "catch" that isn't clearly laid out in the Terms and Conditions, but one thing to keep in mind is that you cannot transfer a balance between cards from the same issuer. This is an industry rule, so it doesn't just apply to the Citi Simplicity.

I've had citi simplicity for about 4 months now. My credit score was in "good" category with very low annual income $23,000) to show for, I decided to apply anyway and to my surprise, I was approved for $5,000 at 15.99% rate. After getting rejected by BOA twice where I have account with, I must say I'm only grateful to them to have given me a chance to build my credit history.

So very pleased with this card and their excellent customer service. I saved hundreds in interest by consolidating my bills on to this card and then paying them off while being charged 0% interest. Thank You CITI!!!!

All in all this has been a great card. I picked it up about 6 months ago when I wanted to extend my credit and build up my rating a little more. I went with CITI because I already had a card from my credit union and I wanted a second. Not having to pay any annual fees, penalties, or late fees was pretty awesome. The interest rate to start off with is great! (I mean 0%?!?!?) But it does get a little high after that so just be careful not to carry too much of a balance.

Easy to use card without many hassles. My wife and I have been using it for a few months now and it has been great so far, the rates are great! The late payment forgiveness will be very handy for those rainy days that we all have from time to time. I would suggest this to any family.

The cash advance APR is the same as for purchases. Most cards charge much more for cash advances.
