Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

The Bank of America® Travel Rewards Credit Card is similar to other rewards cards, but also includes some special promotional offers/features that make it worthy of consideration. Points can be redeemed for a statement credit to pay for flights, hotels, vacation packages, cruises, and more. As a new offer, cardholders can earn 20,000 online bonus points if you make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days — that can be a $200 statement credit toward travel purchases.

Additionally, you can earn unlimited 1.5 points per $1 spent on all purchases, which is 50% more than the average rewards programs you see out there. There is no limit to the number of points you can receive with the Bank of America rewards card and the points never expire. Furthermore, you can enjoy an annual 10% customer points bonus on your total purchases when you have a Bank of America® checking or savings account.

International travelers don’t have to deal with high costs on transactions that are processed outside the United States, unlike most credit card offers, and there’s no annual fee. Redeeming your points for statement credits towards your travel purchases is simple and fast – call or go online to redeem those points after you pay for your travel expenses with your Bank of America® Travel Rewards Credit Card.

If you prefer the personal touch of a phone call when you apply for a credit card or have a question on your account, Bank of America goes the extra mile. You can expect an “an outstanding customer service experience” for the live phone channel, according to the May 2017 certification by J.D. Power.

The Bottom Line

This card has its benefits when used for traveling purposes. It provides the card users with a huge opportunity for savings because consumers can utilize travel comparison websites in order to find the best deals instead of dealing with often marked-up rates common with company-specific rewards programs.

The Good

International travelers don’t have to deal with high costs on transactions that are processed outside the United States, unlike most credit card offers. The Bank of America® Travel Rewards Credit Card allows you to redeem points for a statement credit to pay for traveling expenses like hotels and cruises, and there's no annual fee.

The Not so Good

There aren't many downsides to this card other than it is only available for consumers with Excellent/Good credit.

Great for casual travelers (Once or twice a year flyers). No annual fee and no foreign exchange fees. If you spend $2,000+ per month on your credit card and take advantage of BOA's special restaurant deals for 10% cash back, you can get $600 per year towards travel. If you really want to maximize it, you can get up to $700 back to discount long flights or totally pay for short flights and hotels (SF to Las Vegas for example).

Why do most reviews about this credit card leave out the BOA travel portal? In that travel portal, you can get 3% travel rewards back minimum for Airlines/Hotels/Rental cars. If you are a preferred card member it gets boosted up to a max of 4.125% travel rewards back for Airlines/Hotels/Rental cars. If your fly once a month for work and your employer reimbursements your travel expenses, you can use this portal to get huge amounts back for travel.

I really love my travel rewards visa and use it for everything. I do all my store shopping, grocery, etc. with this card and love the fact that I can use it abroad without extra charges piling up. Anyone who travels should get one of these. I am saving my points for an airline ticket to U.K. in 2018 and want to get a nice, first class ride to see my granddaughter graduate from the university there. This helps me remember to take my card with me everywhere. Love it!

I just recently received my BankAmericard Travel Rewards Credit Card, so I don't really have a lot to say just yet but what I've experienced so far has been great! So, why did I go with BankAmericard Travel Rewards? #1: There is no annual fee. Why pay an annual fee for a card when there's cards out there that offer their services without the annual fee?! #2: World wide acceptance. This is really important for me, as I am a traveler. While I have yet to venture out of the US, it's a comfort to know that my card will be accepted if/when that happens (and I hope it does soon!) #3: You can redeem your points from using your card for travel expenses on things like hotels, cruises, and flights (this was the number one reason I signed up for this card, so I'm not sure why I labeled it number 3) Like I said, I frequently travel and travel expenses add up VERY quickly--hotel stay, parking, flight (if you fly), rental car (if you drive), gas, food, etc. Any discount is great in my book, especially for the most expensive aspects of traveling (which is typically hotel room and rental car for me!)

I have been very happy with my Bank of America card. I have been a customer with them for over 6 years and have never once had a bad experience. I had very poor credit when I first started banking with them and had to start out with a partially secured credit card. But thanks to their tips and help from my local branch, my credit score has raised dramatically over the last couple of years. I would definitely recommend this card to anyone looking for a new card or for a way to build your credit. I am now able to purchase a new car, a new home, and several other things that I would not have been eligible for a few years ago. I can look at my credit report and feel confident. Plus, if I were ever to have an emergency with my car, my house, my kids, or anything else, it isn't necessary to have money saved for that. I can use my Bank of America travel rewards card and pay it back when I can. Plus I get rewarded for using it. I know that there have been negative things in the media about Bank of America, but coming from a customer of theirs, I have always been satisfied. On the rare occasion when something doesn't seem right in my account or on my statement, the customer service representatives have handled my calls with friendliness and resolved any issues immediately. I don't see myself switching banks or credit cards anytime in the foreseeable future. I get all my account information electronically and it is very easy to monitor my account either online or through their app. I can even pay my credit card bill through the app and not have to worry about sending in a payment or wondering if it will reach them in time. Hats off to Bank of America!

In My opinion this Bank of America Travel Rewards Credit card has a lot of good features fro travelers 1) No Annual Fee 2) No Foreign Transaction fee; which is great to have it if you travel overseas or process transactions with merchants outside the USA, (Other Banks will charge you up to 3%, or you will have to pay an annual fee waive it i.e Chase Sapphire) 3) 1.5 points per dollar expended 4) Chip Technology or EMV Card at no charge (Other Banks will charge an annual fee too) which I think is a good feature for international travelers). 5) Visa Signature Benefits if you credit history Qualifies. 6) Bank of America Deals

Do you need more benefits? Bottom Line, Bank of America has been pretty aggressive offering this competitive Credit Card among other reward/travel credit cards offered in the market

Very inaccurate "expert" review here, mentioning about perks only in certain categories(??)... However, you can earn 1.5points on everything and anything you buy, which is equal to 1.5% back and that can be redeemed it in cash (or statement credit). + additional 10% on top of those rewards if you are BofA customer already. 1.5% back (1.65% basically with BofA account) is top number, making this card top card comparable perhaps only with Capital One Quick Silver with its 1.5% back on all purchases (here is better that you get cash right the way, and no need to transfer to cash from rewards) True is it is actually most rewarding universal card for every day use. Card has not much to do with travels, although it may be used for them Great for,as mentioned, no fees at all including the international transactions. Excellent Card

Great card for local and international travel for those who rarely travel (1-2 times a year). You can take a local train, local bus, or UBER/Lyft and redeem the rewards if you don't fly often. Only limitation is you can't transfer the points to a frequent flyer program.
