The Bottom Line

Targeting students with little to no financial history, the Bangor Savings Bank College Rewards Visa card offers access to an interactive credit education website and a rewards program that lets you earn 1 point per every $1 spent.  Points can be redeemed for a variety of options and your first purchase will earn you 1,000 bonus points.  So long as you pay your bills on time, this card can be a good option for those just starting out.

The Good

You earn 1 point per dollar spent. You also get a 1,000 bonus points following your first purchase and another 1,000 bonus points when enrolling in autpay and e-statements. Points remain in your accout for up to five years.

The Not So Good

The APR on purchases and balance transfers is 12.24% or 23.24%, depending upon your credit worthiness – and 24.24% for cash advances. There is also a surcharge of $5 or 3% of the amount of each balance transfer or cash advance, whichever is greater.
