Wachovia has been on a wild ride these past months. First, the bank had agreed to be acquired by Citi Bank, only to have Wells Fargo swoop in at the last minute and offer a higher amount to the government. While Wachovia customers have endured confusion over what name will be on their next bank statement, there still exists some uncertainty as to whether the new Wachovia will honor its existing rewards programs.

Outside of the issue as to whether Wachovia will honor reward point balances among card holders, even more alarming is the username that's required for accessing your rewards account – your credit card number! No credit card program that we are aware of asks for your credit card number to login for reward redemptions. This is potentially an ideal target for hackers to try and steal credit card numbers.
Wachovia has enough to worry about in terms of losing customers during their transition to under the Wells Fargo umbrella – a major security breach might be the final straw.
